The Canowindra Balloon Challenge is set to be bigger and better than before. In 2017, the event attracted over 11,000 people to the region, who spent over $1,000,000 throughout the town. The event is fantastic for our community, and delivers an economic boost to our region.

All balloon pilots from Australia and overseas with 30 hours PIC are invited to register to fly in the Canowindra International Balloon Challenge.

Ever wondered what it would be like to be one of the people that help get these beautiful balloons in the air? Then why not join us as a balloon crew member and learn all about the joys and technical expertise required to be a competitive hot air balloonist?
As long as you are fit, able and don’t mind an early start, you will be perfect. Crew members must be prepared to commit for the whole 8 days. We will allocate you to a pilot from interstate or overseas who has not brought crew with them.
This year the expanded Night Balloon Glow, Fire and Light Spectacular will amaze all. Why not join the party by volunteering for the day or the week? We can assure you; whether young or old; of a memorable experience.
Jobs for all levels of fitness
Have you done any Geocaching? We have geocaching jobs all week. For this job volunteer for the management team.
If crewing is not your thing, why not be a volunteer for the Event Management team. Again you just need to be fit and willing to work at a pretty high pace.
The upside is getting to meet a whole new set of friends and seeing this event from a different perspective. It’s also great fun!

All volunteers will be required to attend induction training.
Depending on the time spent, volunteers will receive some or all of the following:
* Free camping on the basis of one free night for every day that you volunteer
* Free balloon glow entry
* Free volunteer shirt
* Free breakfasts
* An invitation to the final presentation dinner.
Just to watch the mass launch of a fleet of colorful balloons is the most spectacular visual and photographic experience ever. You can expect to see balloons of all shapes, sizes and colors including home built, special shapes and sky charriots, from all over Australia and the world.
Balloons will launch daily from 6.30am and 3.30pm mostly from the Canowindra sports ovals, but may launch from farms around Canowindra when the winds change. In this case it can be fun to chase the balloons across the countryside.
Another way to get more involved is to take a commercial balloon ride. Note: the commercial balloons will not fly within the competition fleet but will be flying in close proximity.
The public highlight of the week is the Balloon Glow where balloons light up their burners in the dark to music. The kids will sing and dance with purchasable glow wands just before the balloons start glowing. Fire baton dancers will also perform.
Mid-week there will be evening functions around the town in clubs and restaurants.
Many caravan and motorhome owners make the Canowindra Balloon Challenge a stopover destination on their way travelling north.
Do you own a Drone (UAV)? There will be a show and shine and education event mid week at the showground plus perhaps even some friendly competition flying events.
Enter the pictures taken from your drone in the photographic contest to win a prize. You may even get a chance to have a test flight of the event's brand new, 6 meter long, lighter than air, radio controlled, Blimp which is classed as a UAV or Drone.
Stallholders are asked to register and book their site for the Balloon Glow which attracts up to 10,000 people. The main focus of the markets is food and wine, produced by local chefs, from within 100 miles (160 kms) of Canowindra. Food stalls are asked to provide a minimum of 400 serves to cater for the numbers of people.
Craft stalls also need to adhere to the handmade and 100 mile concept. Fully imported products that are not locally handmade do not qualify. There are a limited number of craft stalls.
All sites are 3 meters by 3 meters but double sites may be booked.

If you would like to be a part of the Cabonne Country Balloon Glow and Twighlight markets, please read through the following terms and conditions and complete your registration.
Media agents are given access to all aspects of the event both from the organisation behind the scenes and pilot briefing point of view as well as the public perception of the spectacle of a mass of colourful hot air balloons in the air and of course, the spectacular evening balloon glow.
There are many story lines about this event; from the people involved, to the local influence the event has on the local economy and the visual spectacle of the balloons.
Note: the daily pre-flight activities start at 5.30am daily so photographers and reporters will need to be prepared for early starts.
Please note: you will need to order the number of tickets to cover the number of people in your crew.
All performers whether paid or voluntary need to register here and present the barcoded ticket at the Balloon Glow Gates to gain entry and confirm their attendance. You need to purchase the number of free tickets for the number of people in your act which includes managers and support crew.
